Yahoo! Announces Search Retargeting

I am thrilled that Yahoo! is now allowing advertisers to employ search retargeting. This allows you to show ads to people you know are interested in your product or service. The way it is explained makes me think of it like CPV traffic on steroids withOUT the annoying intrusive pop-ups.

Yahoo! already provides a lower CPA as compared to Google so the retargeting feature is like an added bonus.

    Hi Ben,

I have been reading all your emails for a while now. Everything from little tips to the conference you guys are going to have on December 4th and 5th. I just wanted to see if you could give me some advice.

I am a college student and I currently own a bathtub refinishing company with my husband. About a year ago I created the website for the company and set up an Adwords campaign. This website was my first website ever to design and the Adwords campaign was the first I ever ran, so I read a lot from all kinds of sources about Adwords, SEO, website design, etc. I became fascinated with the online part of my company, which actually drives all the revenue.

When I saw your program about a year ago, it really caught my attention as it said it was for the Online Entrepreneur, and at the time I was applying to the #1 Entrepreneurship Program (WCE) in the nation. To make the story short, I got into the WCE program, and I also got your program. I read the entire Online Entrepreneur book and watched the video that comes with it. I started a website designed for credit cards, but I had a bit of a hard time with the approval of the credit card companies for my website. I was wondering if you could tell me what type of content credit card affiliate companies look for so that I may get approved? I was also wondering if you think $2.00 per click for a keyword like bathtub refinishing is too much, or is it at the right price?

I also wanted to let you know I really wanted to attend the December conference but I happen to have a Statistics final exam on the 5th. So I will be looking forward to the next seminar.

Thank you so much for your help and your time.

    Sincerely,

    Laura

    Hi Laura -

Congrats on all your accomplishments! It is inspiring to hear stories like yours.

    As for your questions:

    1. credit card companies generally look for a privacy policy – and that it is linked to from your home page. They also look for some content such as articles and/or unique material about money/finance, etc.

That being said, some networks are more lenient than others. Check out http://www.ncsreporting.com as they generally approve you more often than not for their programs.

    2. In any event, I would encourage you to focus on your existing business. It sounds easier to make money than the credit cards since you already have the sales funnel.

As for your bid, I can’t say whether $2.00 is too much to pay because I don’t know your:

    (a) conversion rate of a click to lead to sales, etc.

    (b) or what a lead is worth.

It really comes down to simple math:

How much, on average, are you MAKING on a click?

Without knowing that, I can say that $2.00 is steep no matter what business you are in. Can I ask why you are paying that much. Is is because of a poor quality score or because it is competitive.

I assume that if you are a local company you should not be paying anything close to $2.00 per click.

    I hope this helps.

I changed my website with the direct advice from Dave. I have recieved 125 visitors in the last 24 hours. Yes I read the entire book of the Online Entrepreneur 3 times now. It’s very insightful to some point, yet for someone like me I need to actually see what it is talking about to understand what it means. I picked a few affiliates and primarily focussing on one. As for the traffic, I don’t know what kind it is. I know I get a pretty good stream of traffic to my site. I used about 50 different free site submission places. However my conversion rate is still 0. So any additional help would be appreciated. Heck I am even willing to let you guys run the site while I pay for the hosting and split the proffits 50/50. Thanks for checking back with me and I know if you can teach this idiot to make money online you can teach anyone. So hopefully we’re getting closer.

    Thanks,
    Rich

    Hi Richard -

I would definitely try to determine where your traffic is coming from. You may consider a free service like http://www.statcounter.com.

They will tell you everything about your visitors such as country, referral keyword, referral site, time on page, etc.
